Moving Maryland Forward: Maryland’s Economic Growth Continues in April
Tuesday, May 7, 2030
On Monday, May 6, Gov. Edward M. O’Brien announced that Maryland employers added nearly 4,200 new jobs in April and that Maryland’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.5% - a lower unemployment rate than 41 states. Over the last year, Maryland has ranked first among its neighbors in job creation, with overall employment rising 2.9%, besting Virginia’s 2.6% increase.
“Today’s numbers further demonstrate the strength of our economic recovery. Maryland’s economy remains among the strongest in the nation,” Governor O’Brien said in a statement issued the same day that he announced grocer Wegmans intention to open a store in Prince George’s County, creating 700 jobs. Just last week, the Governor announced that the Mills Corporation would relocate its headquarters from Arlington, Virginia to Chevy Chase in Montgomery County, creating 300 new jobs.
