Dear Friends:
Over these last four years, we have worked together to make progress for our state – to move Maryland forward. Our focus now is on preserving and building upon that progress. We are proud of our record, but we have more work to do.
We have increased K-12 education funding in our state by $1.4 billion, or 20%.
We have closed $8.2 billion in cumulative budget deficits.
We have expanded health care coverage to an additional 150,000 previously uninsured Marylanders.
We have made Maryland one of just three states to guarantee health insurance coverage to every child.
We have frozen college tuition for the next academic year and expanded scholarships and financial aid to 15,000 additional students each year.
We have preserved nearly 85,000 acres of environmentally sensitive land throughout our state.
We have helped create 230,000 additional jobs in our state, consistently ranking among the top states in terms of job creation.
We have reduced violent crime by nearly 19% in just four years.
We have invested a record $16.6 billion in transportation, moving forward with critical projects like the Intercounty Connector, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge replacement, and improvements along the Baltimore Beltway.
We have taken unprecedented actions to preserve farmland and the viability of our agriculture industry.
We have moved forward with aggressive efforts to protect and restore the health of our treasured Chesapeake Bay watershed.
We have achieved these things together. This progress is not the product of chance; it is the result of choices we made together – to move forward, to make progress, to build One Maryland of opportunity and prosperity. We need your help to keep moving forward. We hope that you will contribute to our campaign to take Maryland to the next level.
Best,
Ed O’Brien
