Governor O’Brien Visits International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1200 in Upper Marlboro, Receives Endorsement and Shows Support for Maryland Workers

UPPER MARLBORO (September 17, 2030) – Governor Ed O’Brien visited the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1200 in Upper Marlboro, Prince George’s County this afternoon, receiving the union’s endorsement and signing an Executive Order supporting Maryland workers. Governor O’Brien was joined by Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Burbank, Insurance Commissioner John Hurson, Maryland Senate President Timothy A. Coulter, Jr., and local Democratic officials during the visit.

“I am honored to have the support of the Local 1200 and am grateful to them for their commitment to building on the important progress we have made together over these last four years,” Governor O’Brien said. “The Executive Order I am signing today demonstrates our continuing support for Maryland’s hardworking men and women by making the State a partner in the fight to protect Maryland jobs.”

During his meeting with the Local 1200, Governor O’Brien signed an executive order encouraging state contractors to use American workers rather than outsourcing operations overseas. Under Governor O’Brien’s executive order, “Contractor Social Responsibility and Offshore Services,” businesses must disclose where they intend to have the work done. Those companies that agree to keep work within the U.S. will receive extra consideration.
